South Australia's wine regions, without the designated driver problem

Adelaide is the only Australian capital with four significant wine regions inside a two-hour drive. That is a genuine advantage — and it comes with an obvious catch, which is that somebody has to drive.

A private chauffeured tour removes the catch. Your vehicle and chauffeur stay with you for the full day, you choose the cellar doors, and everybody in the group gets to taste.

The regions

  • Barossa Valley — about an hour north. Shiraz country: Seppeltsfield, Penfolds, Jacob's Creek, Henschke and the Tanunda and Angaston villages.
  • McLaren Vale — 45 minutes south. Grenache, Shiraz and the d'Arenberg Cube, with the coast a few minutes further on.
  • Adelaide Hills — 30 minutes east. Cool climate: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and sparkling, plus Hahndorf and Stirling.
  • Clare Valley — under two hours north. Australia's benchmark Riesling region, and the Riesling Trail.

Straight from the airport, if you like

A tour does not have to start in the city. We regularly collect guests directly from Adelaide Airport and begin the day on the way — a cellar door on the route north to the Barossa, or lunch in McLaren Vale before check-in. Flights are tracked as usual, so a delay just moves the itinerary rather than wrecking it.

How a day works

Tell us the region, the group size and roughly what you want out of the day, and we'll propose an itinerary — typically three to four cellar doors with lunch booked somewhere sensible in between. You can specify particular wineries or leave it to us; our chauffeurs know which cellar doors reward a longer visit and which are best as a quick stop. Bookings at individual wineries are your call, though we're happy to advise on which need one.

Groups

Wine tours scale well. A couple fits comfortably in a sedan; six or seven in the V-Class or Carnival; ten in the Sprinter; twenty in the coach. Larger groups often work out cheaper per head than a scheduled bus tour — and you keep control of the itinerary.

Meet & greet in arrivals

Your chauffeur waits inside the terminal with a name board and takes the luggage from there. Kerbside pickup if you prefer.

Available 24 hours

Adelaide Airport's first departures leave before dawn and the last arrivals land close to midnight. We cover all of it, every day of the year.

Professional chauffeurs

Accredited, background-checked, uniformed and local. They know the Hills roads, the CBD one-ways and where the Oval closures will be.

Immaculate vehicles

Every vehicle is cleaned and checked between jobs. Complimentary water, phone charging and climate control as standard.

Good to know

Winery Tours & Day Trips — questions

For big reds and the classic Australian wine experience, the Barossa. For a shorter drive and a coastal detour, McLaren Vale. For cool-climate whites and a scenic day, the Adelaide Hills. For Riesling, the Clare Valley.

Yes, and it's a popular way to use a first afternoon. We track the flight and start the itinerary from arrivals.

Three to four is the comfortable number with lunch included. Five is possible but starts to feel rushed.

We'll advise on which venues need a booking and help plan the timing. Reservations are generally made in your name.

Day tours are quoted as a fixed rate for the vehicle and chauffeur based on the region, the hours and the group size. Tell us those three things and we'll send a price.
